YouTube And Software Lessons Still Don't Compare With Private Instruction

Posted on

You deserve applause for considering private piano lessons. The temptation to attempt learning the piano with YouTube and or software applications can be very strong. They make it seem as if it's so simple to become a virtuoso by simply practicing with an app or subscribing to a channel. But, that's just marketing.

The fact remains that most players who are successful at learning the piano, or any instrument for that matter, learn through private instruction. While your ultimate success on the instrument will largely depend on your personal will to learn to play, a good teacher, especially in the beginning, will save you from most of the pitfalls associated with the piano.

Invest in private piano lessons. The most sophisticated computer AI still can't compare to the knowledgable human ear. Furthermore, machines can't analyze your playing posture and piano technique, which is a huge part of becoming an accomplished pianist.

Someone to Hold You Accountable

When you're feeling tired or unmotivated, it's all too easy to skip out YouTube lessons or practice. This is especially true if you're a busy, working adult. You know that you'll never learn to play if you don't practice, but it's easy to rationalize taking the day off, especially when you are tired.

Having a person to play for each week fixes this dilemma. If you don't practice, it will show when you play. Not only will you know that you've failed, somebody else will know, too. Furthermore, if you're paying good money for private piano lessons every week or month, Not practicing is the same as throwing money away. The bottom line matters.

Established Curriculum

If you've ever checked out YouTube piano lessons, the first thing you notice is how many piano lesson videos there are. And with so many content providers, there's no real rhyme or reason to the videos that your search results return or that YouTube's automated playlists create. Frankly, it's overwhelming.

You are far better off choosing one private teacher and following their curriculum. And most private teachers do have a curriculum, unlike YouTube. They have ordered the way that lessons and information are presented to you so that you progress in an orderly fashion.

Networking

One of the best things about private lessons is that it enables you to network with others, internet not required. All the teachers and fellow students that you meet have lives outside of the piano just like you do. This makes private lessons and players groups a great place to make friends, make contacts for future employment references, and any other social activity that humans do.

If you are interested in taking private piano lessons, contact a local instructor.
